Nanomia Cara

from Black Inscription by Rabbit Rabbit Radio

/

about

She is pushed downwards by the pressure and weight of the water above her into the ocean's Midnight Zone – a depth at which no sunlight permeates. She is greeted, not by darkness, but by billions of lights from billions of bioluminescent creatures.

90% of the ocean's deep-sea animals create their own light, making it the single most common form of communication on our planet. Their light is a lure, a deterrent, a battle cry, and a love song. One of these bioluminescent creatures is a siphonophore called Nanomia Cara.

lyrics

I keep my falling quiet,
I keep my falling free.
The blue grows dark and thick,
the blue grows over me.

Cara, Cara, Nanomia Cara,
Cara iluminada,
Mi vanidad se disuelve.

It all surrounds me -
the flickering love, the beckoning light.
I'm a drop of water in this starry night.

Cara, Cara, Nanomia Cara,
Cara iluminada,
Mi vanidad se disuelve.

Dissolve, dissolve...
the flickering love.

Dissolve, dissolve...
Me gustaría encontrarme a mí misma.
