about

“All Over Again” features the understated and positively vibey guitar work of Jon Evans. Most of you know him as a bass player with artists like Tori Amos, Linda Perry, Sarah McLachlan, and countless others. Or perhaps you just know him by now as our Rabbit Rabbit enabler and frequent guest. He has his hand in most of the songs we’ve released since we started Rabbit Rabbit Radio, either playing bass and/or guitar, or engineering/producing… or all of the above.

This time, we want to bring him out of the shadows of our rabbitty warren and fete him in style.

Jon is one of those gorgeous musicians who doesn’t often put themselves front and center, but whose voice is distinct, nuanced, and totally unmistakable. (Shahzad Ismaily also comes to mind as such a musician.) The beauty of his artistry lies in part with how he’s able to make his ego disappear, so the music emerges from something deeper.

Check out our 10+ page for a list of Jon’s favorite songs, for there’s no better way to know someone than to know what inspires him! And throughout the month, we’ll be posting some of our

"All Over Again" was born during a session Jon and I were doing for independent radio producer Jay Allison.

We were set up at Brick Hill -- Jon’s studio in Orleans, MA. The click track was rolling. Jon had his Telecaster and I was seated behind a Gretsch kit that Jon’s dad bought in 1958. We were spinning out mournful and cinematic cues. Only a few of them were used for the piece we were scoring. "All Over Again" is composed of 4 "cells" we repurposed from that session, all of them in the same tempo and key.

Lyrically speaking, I put myself in the shoes of a very close pal who's going through a divorce. Imagining him scanning over his life, looking at the awful and lovely, and paying tribute to the pain and pleasure with an even hand. --MB

lyrics

ALL OVER AGAIN

Pigeon-toed with a wobbly eye.
I always cried when I put you on the subway.
but you loved me, yes you did.

I used to drive you home and not come up.
Your mother always hated me.

Take a walk past that place on 6th street
where they sang you happy birthday.
You said you hated Lou Reid and indeed,
I saw you more as a bangles girl.

Starting all over again.
Starting all over again.
I feel it starting all over again without you.

Sorry doesn't matter when you're all alone.
Maybe we'll paint a picture we can send back home.
Did you know my self control is at an all time low?

Better not to talk.
Slide down the back seat of the cab.
Please don't think I'm fucking with you.
I'll be the worst you've ever had.

Starting all over again.
Starting all over again.
I feel it starting all over again without you.
